I ended the Everyman attempt after 18 days. I know, it's pathetic. Did fairly well for two weeks, felt good, then the going got tough. But the fact that I just slept through all of my alarms like nothing, and considering that I've struggled with oversleeps all through the effort, means there's no sense on keep going. I have nothing to prove in terms of willpower and determination, if you doubt them read through the whole blog. It's just that my body is not accepting this. Only reason I would keep going would be if I had 100 % failure prove alarm, and I don't think there is any. Another human being is the closest to that, but I don't have anyone to help me at the moment.
This sounds pretty damning judgment, like whole polyphasic sleep is just a pipe-dream. I'm definitely not believing that, not yet. What I'll try now is to mantain my quick napping. I really have had that handled, I've missed hardly any naps because of failing to fall asleep. I want to keep that ability, so I'm going to try to increase the core gradually while having as many naps as I can, with a minimum of 90 minutes in between.
The first day didn't work though, I'm just no waking to alarm anymore, I slept through it and for 7½ hours. I'm still trying to get some naps in. I have plenty of sleep dep in the storage, so having naps shouldn't yet be a problem even with full "nights" sleep (it isn't actually night)
If I end up just slipping back into monophasic sleep, that's fine. Next effort will probably be in the latter half of the August on triphasic sleep, that has titillated me for long. I'd wish I had Zeo properly working though, perhaps I should just bite the bullet and buy some replacement censors.
I'll be posting new stuff here in the meanwhile too.

Two Weeks of Everyman and Oversleeps Just Keep Piling Up
It's fifteenth day and since I've overslept now two days in a row, that has taken the combined total to 6½ hours. It's tough to avoid those oversleeps now that sleep dep is starting to creep in. I am yet to find a way to consistently get up from the bed. It doesn't seem too hard to outsiders, but it takes quite a lot of willpower once you start to get sleep-deprived.
I'll keep thinking about it and if it depended on my determination alone, I'd not oversleep anymore.
So let's recap the first two weeks a bit. It's not really been tough, it has felt easier than during last year's Everyman adaptation. The numbers though tell a different story. I've overslept more than last year by now, at least in terms of times overslept. If I can't keep at least two weeks completely mistake-free, I'm just not going to adapt, that's a fact. Seems a bit overwhelming when you barely can string three perfect days in a row.
From now on I'll keep much stricter reins to my schedule. I won't miss any more naps. I won't shift the naps around. The schedule is bizarre enough as it is, I don't need any more changes to that. The time for shifting naps is much later than now. I need to stay the fuck active. The bed should be off-limits within an hour from waking up.

Everyman Day 12 - Completely Unnecessary Oversleep
I was going to write a post anyway today to update what has happened so far. Before the last nap of today the answer would have been "not a whole lot", but I just woke up from 1½ hour oversleep. This takes my totals to actually worse numbers than in the December adaptation. Still, I'd argue I'm still feeling better. Anyway, let's see into the reasons of the oversleep.
Quite simple really, two things happened that made this easy if not even likely. First off I went to be really early - 15 minutes early in fact. I wasn't too tired. It was feeling a bit down and not feeling like doing anything that made me do it. I was planning to stay awake for a few minutes before letting myself fall asleep. I did stay up for at least 10 minutes, but any nap lenght of over 25 minutes is still very dangerous. You fall into too deep sleep and get screwed.
I had much trust on my alarms though. Being a veteran of this already I'd knew that I was risking an oversleep when I go to bed early. But I thought to myself, if I fall asleep early I have the safety net of the computer's alarm. I have not needed that many times and I'm certain it would work if needed. So the problem was... Well, I apparently had not activated the whole alarm. That's useful, right? But these things happen which makes me think if I should have two heavier alarms just as two softer ones. Maybe one more, if religiously used, would render oversleeps at least very hard. In fact, I'll start to think about where I'll get one so that I'm pretty well covered in all situations.
Overall program still feels good, no terrible sleep dep, just very short phases of heavier tiredness mostly upon waking. The middle phase of the day, 14-17, still is by far the most unproductive, but it is also the shortest, which is a win-win situation. Or less lose-lose?

Everyman: Another Oversleep Debrief
So I had a couple of pretty bad mistakes today. Not in terms of setting me that much back, but in terms of how novice errors they were.
First off I woke up from my core and I don't know what the hell I'm thinking, but for some reason I put my alarm to 25 minutes later and then went back to bed. Now if I would have woken up 25 minutes later that would have been nothing too serious, but I slept through it and ended up sleeping 1½ hours over my regular core.
This wasn't the end of my mistakes though. I skipped the first nap, as I had slept so long it would have been too near anyway, so the time for the second one was today my first. It was a very solid nap, but I felt a little too comfortable in bed and didn't really get up. I ended up falling asleep for at least 30 minutes, but probably a little over.
I mean it's ridiculous. Beginner mistakes. I am very angry at myself - first one was simply avoidable by having multiple alarms and slightly more self-discipline. I really doubt I would have started to reset three or more alarms. As for second one, I should really get some one to shout me "GET THE FUCK UP!" everytime I go back to bed after waking up from the naps.
I had the midnight nap as usual. Overall I have no strong urge to shift any of the alarm times at all. It seems like they have fallen to good spots naturally this time. I really enjoy this long shift at night, I'm a night person and the tiredness seems to come at right time for core. During winter when I used Everyman I would have the third nap at 9 pm, which was too early, I guess. I rarely slept on that nap.
I got a new motherboard to my computer, but it's still acting up and not working completely properly. Which means that I might go yet another day without hardcore alarms... Well, I guess there would be alternatives, but I'm kind of attached to the thought of using my computer as the last stand for waking up. Anyway, I still plan to fix the issues before heading to sleep tonight... well, at dawn. Funny how polyphasic schedules work sometimes?

Day 8 - Mornings Are Still Impossible
It's kind of weird that I have no trouble while sitting, but if I start laying down I instantly start to struggle - and then in mornings I just pass out all the sudden despite sitting. This is certainly weird behaviour from my brain. Also, why doesn't the sleep dep escalate? None of what I've read about polyphasic sleep has actualized. I feel I'm not mentally the sharpest, but very close, close enough for gained 5-7 hours a day, even with oversleeps.
My aim tomorrow is just to avoid the oversleeps. I said I'll do the extra nap in SPAMAYL mentality, but we'll see. If I'm totally dead in the morning, then fine, I'll do it. I'd like to manage to adapt to real Uberman though. Also I'm interested to see if I'd not do the oversleep, whether I'd struggle for the whole day or just the couple of first phases.
I feel like I'm pretty free to do anything - I'm sort of partly adapted. I feel I'm not accumulating sleep deprivation as I'm getting REM often enough during my naps.

I just watched a Simpsons episode right after waking up and amazingly I didn't fall asleep, but it must have been close; although I don't remember missing anything, I entered different state of mind. I need to be more careful from now on. I want to avoid all the extra sleeps.
As for my typing speeds, my top speed keeps deteriotating. Is it a mark that I'm beginning to get sleep-deprived? It doesn't seem a temporary hitch for sure, but we'll be wiser tomorrow.
I've been putting my computer alarm to sound every few minutes and I have my headphones on. It's really effective in keeping me in alert state - I always startle when the sound bangs all the sudden and sends a surge of adrenaline through my body.

To be honest I'm completely undecided what I do tomorrow morning. SPAMAYL-styled naps really didn't seem to solve anything on the basis of one morning - I'm still destroyed at that time and will still oversleep and can't help it at all. However if I wake up from an oversleep those extra naps might help in evening out the groggedness, but I'm not even that sure about that.
Only staple seems to be that I'm tired morning to noon and completely fresh afternoon - small hours, peaking at around midnight. Now I would like to know if it stays that way if I don't oversleep in the morning. I guess that's my next morning's experiment. It might lead to wasting a few hours, but they'd be wasted sleeping anyway so whatever.

I'm just amazed how clear my head is. My test scores improved from yesterday, but aren't still at their best. Close enough.
I did my first proper training session under this attempt. I have had motivation problems regarding my training but now I managed to put in an effective upper body workout. I will be easing myself back to training slowly, I'd hope to be better adapted before trying anything too drastic.

Solid nap, I got a bit distracted before going to sleep but in the end got asleep quite fast. I'm not really tired, but I think that my thought processes are finally starting to take a hit because of all the sleep deprivation.

Alright 4 am. now and I finally start to feel a little tired. I've been just watching Simpsons the whole time, you know passively watching, which was my demise in last attempt. I would always get tired for not doing anything but watching something and end up either falling asleep or having those nodding microsleeps.
I did the typing tests hour later than usual and it might be that that showed or then again, I might've been off anyway. I made lots of errors and it took off my pace significantly in both tests. Still I'm typing pretty fast though.

It's kind of hard when you don't know what went wrong. I mean why my clock was waking me up just when it was? I don't remember putting it on. But apparently I've woken up from my nap at 6 am. but for some reason went back to sleep almost instantly. I mean that's the worst, the judgement clouding after some point of sleep dep. No reason to keep dwelling on this though. I'll just try to continue as if nothing happened.
Everything has changed. It was easy just 8 hours ago. Now I'm frustrated at oversleeping while still being very tired. But what can I do? My brain tricked me to sleeping. I remember now that I had some rationalization for sleeping. I don't remember what it was, but I remember that there was such. I could write more, but I'd just be repeating myself, so I'll just shut up.

I'm amazed how easy this is. Here I am and not a slightest of sign of tiredness on sight. I had slight headache immediately after waking up, but it passed. Only 8 more naps and we're in our record run!
On typing test my results were pretty much the same. I made new record in English typing, but only by few keys per minutes, while I failed to reach the amazing speed of Finnish typing test, but came close enough. I don't think there's anything to say about my performance so far.
Alright, 2½ hours into this phase and finally something starts to feel! I'm getting more tired, but it's nothing challenging, I can still sit down without a worry. I could even passively just watch something, I'm refreshed enough. But I gotta keep an eye on that mental state before it gets worse. There's only little over an hour to go before next nap. That could be a tricky one to get up from.
Okay, as usual there's some sort of snowball effect in tiredness. Once you get a little tired, you're soon bound to be very tired. This isn't particularly nasty yet, but I feel uncomfortable. I don't feel like doing anything. I guess I might as well start gaming something to stimulate myself a bit.

I had my share of fuck-ups today and there has certainly been damage for adaptation, but it's still pretty fast cleared if I keep my head. I kept having some trouble prior this nap with staying awake, but they went away eventually and my tiredness subsided. Third REM today. Looks damn impressive, but I still know that it's only a reaction to yesterday. Or I don't know, the microsleeps during phases might also have their impact.

I overslept for 18 hours. I planned to go on for at least a week from this day, but that oversleep is enough to convince me to have a break. So consider this attempt a failure. What happens next? I'll have normal monophasic hell for some time. I don't know how long. I guess at least a week. That's too short break really, but I don't know how much patience I have when I notice again how super-short those monophasic days are. I might do biphasic for a couple of weeks too. Then I'll have my final attempt (this year) to adjust.
Next attempt plan:
Uberman for around a week - If I oversleep after the week, I'll change it to everyman, which seems to be very doable considering the oversleeps I had in this attempt.

I again suffered from some microsleeps while watching football. There's still second half to go (and many other matches). If I keep having problems, I'll count that as a failure.

I kept having some trouble prior this nap with staying awake, but they went away eventually and my tiredness subsided. Third REM today. Looks damn impressive, but I still know that it's only a reaction to yesterday. Or I don't know, the microsleeps during phases might also have their impact.

I overslept for 18 hours. I planned to go on for at least a week from this day, but that oversleep is enough to convince me to have a break. So consider this attempt a failure. What happens next? I'll have normal monophasic hell for some time. I don't know how long. I guess at least a week. That's too short break really, but I don't know how much patience I have when I notice again how super-short those monophasic days are. I might do biphasic for a couple of weeks too. Then I'll have my final attempt (this year) to adjust.
Next attempt plan:
Uberman for around a week - If I oversleep after the week, I'll change it to everyman, which seems to be very doable considering the oversleeps I had in this attempt.

This was a little longer nap than I intended. I fell asleep accidentally couple of minutes early and in a place I didn't intend to, but woke up 10 mins before alarm and decided to continue sleeping, which then went on little longer than the alarm. Nicely enough it was another REM. Guess that oversleep really got the ball rolling. I just wish I'd know how to maintain it.

There was a weird combination of playing GTA, having sleep inertia and having REM on the mix earlier today. I fell asleep for an unknown time during that - means that I have to start from scratch again.
I guess I should write up some sort of schedule that I can follow even if I suffer from bad sleep deprivation, just so that I would have some sort of structure for these attempts. It would make it easier to figure out what's going on. I guess I better write it right away.

I'm too lazy to write everything again. In short I gained no momentum as there was some fuck-up on every phase. Slight oversleep in the fourth and even worse 1h 40 min oversleep for the sixth. I'm going for a start from clear table tomorrow.

I was a bit groggy perhaps upon waking but playing football took care of that again. It has naturally become sort of a habit for me to practise around 20 minutes right after waking up. I really enjoy it for some reason, despite the fact that around this time there's still cold and wet regardless of the weather.
Still no REM (that I recall at least) which indicates that there might be trouble very soon. I know that my overall feeling has not gotten any better since the last shift from zombie-mode to quasi-pleasant. I'm afraid this might be another quite unproducitive day.
PureDoxyk wrote that the first 30 days is the adaptation period so I'm not in a hurry to feel better - especially since I haven't made it this close by exactly adhering to the schedule perfectly. Let's check her "You Know You're Adapting When..." -list and examine what I'm experiencing:
During more and more naps, you're able to:

This has been very true, even on those naps where I feel like I won't be getting to sleep quickly enough. I just be silent for a couple of minutes and that's it, I'll be asleep no matter what.

This varies, but the naps do feel long and stuff.

Not always, but these naps have luckily become more and more regular.
- You begin to dream during your naps.. [x]
Results have varied, but overall I'd say they've gotten more regular too.

I did have multiple naps in a day couple of days ago when was my best day, but overall I'm not still getting multiple of these daily. Hopefully soon enough.

I wish. This is overhelmingly not true for me so far. Especially afternoons have been destroying so far. I feel sligtly tired even now.

Yes, but I doubt this was what PureDoxyk intended. As I've said many times already, my schedule has been opposite of normal and nights been easy while days are the hard part. During daytime this is not true, but nights feel still mostly good.

Far from it. Memory is a mess, but motor skills are not that long way off, at least not anymore.
When should I start to worry then? Well, If I can make it full week with perfect adherence, in other words 42 naps, then I should get worried, if I'm not pretty much adjusted. That's still many days to wait.
My body works (at times) like a clockwork. Again its little past eight and I'm getting really tired. This is the part where I accidentally slept extra nap couple of days ago. I was tired yesterday as well. So yeah.. This doesn't look good and what I mean by that is that I'm going to have struggles in the afternoon as well if this is exact replication of yesterday.

Day Eleven - Do or Die
Eleventh day.. I survived yesterday. I have a chance to make it through two days without oversleeps. And at this point of the sleep deprivation, that would be huge. But that would mean that I would basically have to withstand even worse sleep deprivation today. I'm expecting longest day ever. Time seemed to stop still on one of yesterday's phases. The one where I felt the most tired. I fully expect to feel like that every phase today.
Hope not. Hopefully I just start for some reason stringing REM-naps together and notice sleep-deprivation just vanishing into thin air. Realistically though that's not going to happen yet.

I started feeling better soon enough. There has been certain pattern in last couple of phases. I start off tired, then it gets better for couple of hours before I start to get tired again.
We should soon move to double digits when it comes to succesful naps in a row. I'm not really that worried of an oversleep right now.

It's pretty crushing to keep failing and failing. I'm not giving up even yet despite it really felt like I should've just some time ago. We have to make this one count.

We made an adjustment that everytime I wake up I have to go for a walk. That gives me some time to clear the worst sleep inertia and serves as a check for my sis that I've woken up. We decided that she will wake up every time with me for the rest of the effort. When I leave for the short walk she can go back to sleep etc. I think this is useful addition for me as well. It avoids just going back to sleep straight when you woke up and also serves as a time to plan what I should get done during the phase.

Day Nine - From Insane Sleep Inertia to Another Oversleep
Alright, here is how I expect this to pan out:
Phases 1-2 will be relatively easy. Nothing special, fairly functional etc. I don't think there's much of a risk of oversleeping.
Phases 3-4 tiredness will start to accumulate. Still I can fairly well stay clear of falling asleep, but there's certainly some uncomfortability. Slight risk of oversleeping.
Phases 5- I'll be nearing the full power of sleep deprivation with every nap. I'd expect that the next night will be harder that tonight. After than it gets even tougher in the morning but with the help of my sis I'll stay on the schedule with much struggle. Afternoon eases it a bit, but there's still big chance of screwing up. Finally we'll see the biggest risk of oversleeping in the night between Saturday - Sunday. I'll probably feel trashed the whole Sunday as well. From Monday onwards I start to show signs of adaptation and slowly but surely sleep deprivation eases off. That said it still won't be easy for a couple of days, because there will still be hard moments.

Great nap. I wasn't super refreshed, in fact I felt like I could've slept longer and tried to catch couple of minutes before my alarm which would've went off 2:10. But in the end I decided against it. That said I felt also that I was fresh enough to stay in bed without fearing too much that I'd fall asleep. I laid down for a while and pondered about stuff and felt unity with the world. I know that sounds weird and the old me would've probably scoffed at me for that, but I feel like I've been changing the most I've had in my life during the last few weeks.

Gates keeped opening and closing and Isaac's crew had to make it through some obstacles. Professor just coolly found something genuinely interesting. **At this point I proceeded in finnish. I seemed to be writing a game's plot. I was playing a game just before I went to bed, so that explains why I would have such a dream and then write stuff like that asleep.
At least I'm awake now. That sleep inertia stuff never gets old. I don't have much idea about what I am talking in first paragraph's end. I guess it's body I typoed that I should be cushioning. But yeah first paragraph actually tells the truth overall.

Most of you're probably still WTF? on whats going on - simply I wasn't fully awake when I started to write the blog entry straight after finishing one level on a game. I'm not going to go in any more detail about the game.
But I really were in danger of just sleeping through. Gladly my second alarm is a hardcore as it is, it really scared me awake (Immortal's One by One starts pounding with max volume - nice transition from complete silence. I'll put a brain-blasting guarantee on that, 100 % proven method, or money back. I would wake up from my grave to that.. In a positive sense). Amazingly nobody else wake up to my alarm, at least that I know of. But still, I was pretty much figuring out myself 20 minutes after waking up - "Right, who am I? Where the hell am I? What's going on?"
This ought to be the last nap today that I'm on my own. I should be able to rely on my sis keeping me awake for the rest of the day. Luckily, because my self-confidence isn't at all time high. Thing is, I'd write more analysis if I could, but I hardly feel sane, so I'll avoid writing for a while.
Also I'm still tired enough that I could probably fall asleep sitting at the computer if I'd let myself.
Alright, I'm now over 2 hours into the phase and the situation is still pretty much the same. I feel like I'm mentally way off even if I'm not alarmingly tired. But still, there's no going down to lay for a moment for me anymore. Sis is still asleep, so it might be that I have to set the same alarm system again. I'd expect it to work on sheer psychological factor. It felt bad enough to wake up to it in the first place, I wouldn't want to let the other alarm get off.
But yeah there's really no reason to keep on jabbering. Other than keep myself employed and active so that my tiredness doesn't worsen. And that's precisely what I'm doing. Trying desperately to strech this as long as possible only to have something to do. I'm already bored to death on all my games.
It doesn't seem to be working, though. I feel even more flegmatic than that when I started. There's still 90 minutes to last. That's just messed up. I don't know what to do. I guess I am forced to go outside. There's so damn cold, but I guess that works in my favour this time.
Yeah.. I made it. I was outside for half an hour and then washed some dishes.
I apparently send my sis a text message during that sleep inertia madness when I woke up from this phase. It was ridiculous nonsense aswell. I was really messed up in the morning.

It's amazing how I continue to struggle considering how much I overslept yesterday. I woke up without alarm. I was feeling like I could've slept more and in fact just now drifted off for a few seconds at my computer. I hate being at the computer now. I guess I'll go outside for some time.
Now on in I have my sis' support until first phase of tomorrow, so I shouldn't oversleep.
I did fall asleep for like 1-2 minutes while sitting outside. My sis came to wake me up and I had hardly sat there, but apparently I didn't react to first shout. I don't really know how such supershort sleeps affect - I'll presume zero effect as this point, but something that might need some looking into. I've been very tired for the whole phase, so it isn't suprising to accidentally sleep for minute. Though on mental basis I didn't think I was asleep - in my mind I reacted immediately, but maybe not.

I fell asleep too early, woke up way too late, and now I feel mentally destroyed because I fuckin hate myself! I don't know what my sis was up either, she woke me up but what good does it make over a hour too late? Well at least I'm not tired anymore. Well done brains. You beat me again. I'm yet to feel this desperate during this. Feels like it's impossible to stay awake.
I'm not going to give up (yet), but I'm feeling pretty hopeless right now. If I can't do a straight day without oversleeping then how the hell three or seven needed is going to happen?

Day Eight - Damage Limitation
My combined total from all the sleep during this experiment is little over 16h. If I'd were done it perfectly I would be at 14 hours after 7 days. So that's how much oversleeps have affected it (and missed naps compensated). Seventh day though consisted solely on 20 minute naps.

Non-troublefree nap once again. I had some weird stuff going on after waking up. I played around with my alarm without clear reason. Another REM-related thing I've forgotten? I laid a moment on the sofa, luckily didn't fall asleep or something worse. I was so disconnected with everything for a moment that I needed to check what had just happened on the basis of how much time had gone after last nap. It was only 10 minutes to my relief. I also had changed my alarm to 8:10 for some reason. I was really messed up for a moment then.
I'm not as hardcore in tiredness as I've been at worst, but I'm just badly enough tired so that it definitely kills my productivity. I've been struggling with huge procrastination when writing and I won't even bother playing poker when I'm so long way off my normal brain performance.
Basically it seems it's going to be another day of just waiting for sleep depravation symptoms to subside. I might have some better moments where I could get something done, but it doesn't look that good. I am happy though that the next nap is already tenth in row successfully. That's only couple of naps away from my former record. Those couple of naps might be hard though. My sis will go to school today so she won't be around to keep me up during noon. On the otherhand, day time naps haven't still caused any superhard trouble for me. I'll just stack up on alarms and I should be fine, just fine.
I've done some some photoshopping for fun so in a sense I've been productive.

Damn! Another oversleep. I don't know what happened on this one, I really have zero recall. My compurer's alarm is set to next phase already and my phone's alarm seems to have come off as well. So it must've been your traditional sleeping through the alarm.
This is getting very frushtrating. Now what happens? 2-3 phases where I regain some functionality and then pretty much rest of the time zombie mode.
I'm not as upset as last time this happened but still, it always puts you down when you fight through the night only to find yourself waking up almost two hours too late.
I guess I need new alarms and some way to get myself not disabling computer's alarm everytime I get up to shut down my phone's alarm. I tried taking the mouse off once. Then again, I should probably start putting computer's alarm going off first for tough naps. Though I wasn't expecting this one to be tough, so it might've not helped at all.
The other person is the only 100 % alarm of course, I wish my sis were awake but that wasn't unfortunately the case. But at least I ought to make it through noon naps easier. Though I'm not falling into that trap that mantaining schedule would be easy for a couple of phases now. Last thing I need is another oversleep.
Words fail me. I'm having so much trouble in so many fronts again. And to think that there hasn't been anything really intense yet. Now I need to figure out some alternative alarms.
Worst thing about the oversleep is that it always begs for more. You don't get refreshed enough and now that you got really to the taste of sleep you'll want whole lotta more it. So I should make it through next 90 minutes just fighting in zombie mode.
If I force myself to find anything positive about it, it was refreshing to actually recall a dream once in a while. Or I didn't recall any plot or anything, just some scenes and situations, but it's still more than what I've gotten so far.
3h 40 minutes is a surprisinly long time. Really long time if all you do is wait for next nap, sleep deprived. I guess I'll go for a walk. I've sat around long enough.

A little longer nap, because I didn't wake up for some reason for my normal alarm. However the computer alarm for once did it's job. There was some initial groggyness, but it has gone away. Now I'm experiencing the "oversleep-high" and feeling alert and pretty good... Or then again, maybe not. My state is shifting around really much. I guess I have to wait for next phase before I start feeling really better.
I went out for a 20 minutes and sat there for a moment. I guess I fell asleep. My sis came shouting and apparently I had not reacted to first shout. However that's not really a notable error since it's impossible that I slept more than a couple of minutes, if even that.

Good nap even if I'm still fucked. Since I figured out tha only (fun) thing to do while in sleep-deprived enough is gaming I've been installing bunch of games to my computer. They should help to fight the the pain of nothing having much to do. But yeah, I'm still constantly feeling like I'm going to fall asleep just now. It seems like I'm not getting any improvement to my performance after all, or if it comes it will come at night.

Alright, this comes to strech a bit the term "successful nap". It certainly wasn't a success in terms of keeping inside the schedule, with me probably falling asleep couple of minutes early and getting up almost quarter of a hour too late. That said it isn't failure either. 40 minutes is a long time, but as far as I know it shouldn't mess up everything. So what happened? I shut down the alarm while sleeping. My sis told me to get up and I had reacted by opening my eyes everytime she said something. So finally at 18:25 I regained conchiousness and was very confused of what had happened. She apparently thought I were awake.
I made a deal with her that I'll get off the bed everytime I wake up so that there isn't future mess-ups on this frontier. Nap itself was refreshing - it has been really hard to battle all day, but this seems like a welcome break from it. Whether it is down to nap being longer or just a late reaction to the earlier oversleep, I don't know.
I'm actually really torn whether this is a successful nap or not. I counted 45-minute nap on day six as an oversleep. This is max. 40 mins, can be a bit shorter, I'm not perfectly sure about waking up or falling asleep times. Also I don't know what to think about the fact that I was reacting to her asleep. Meh. I don't know, I'll change it to unsuccesful. Limit is 30 minutes from now on, otherwise it is an oversleep, albeit a small one. It wouldn't matter if I had 20+ successful naps in a row under my belt, but now that I've been messing up constantly this minor thing just has that much of a bigger impact.
So presuming my last nap goes without problems this might seem like another catastrophic day with two oversleeps. I'm obviously not happy, but I think I did decent damage-limitation considering I was tired the whole day. I really need to step it up though. Tomorrow will need to be clean sweep. I think I have good chance of making through weekend without oversleeps. That would be three succesful days in a row.. Well, I can fantasize about it.

That's only couple of naps away from my former record. Those couple of naps might be hard though. My sis will go to school today so she won't be around to keep me up during noon. On the otherhand, day time naps haven't still caused any superhard trouble for me. I'll just stack up on alarms and I should be fine, just fine.

Damn! Another oversleep. I don't know what happened on this one, I really have zero recall. My compurer's alarm is set to next phase already and my phone's alarm seems to have come off as well. So it must've been your traditional sleeping through the alarm.
This is getting very frushtrating. Now what happens? 2-3 phases where I regain some functionality and then pretty much rest of the time zombie mode.
I'm not as upset as last time this happened but still, it always puts you down when you fight through the night only to find yourself waking up almost two hours too late.
I guess I need new alarms and some way to get myself not disabling computer's alarm everytime I get up to shut down my phone's alarm. I tried taking the mouse off once. Then again, I should probably start putting computer's alarm going off first for tough naps. Though I wasn't expecting this one to be tough, so it might've not helped at all.
The other person is the only 100 % alarm of course, I wish my sis were awake but that wasn't unfortunately the case. But at least I ought to make it through noon naps easier. Though I'm not falling into that trap that mantaining schedule would be easy for a couple of phases now. Last thing I need is another oversleep.
Words fail me. I'm having so much trouble in so many fronts again. And to think that there hasn't been anything really intense yet. Now I need to figure out some alternative alarms.
Worst thing about the oversleep is that it always begs for more. You don't get refreshed enough and now that you got really to the taste of sleep you'll want whole lotta more it. So I should make it through next 90 minutes just fighting in zombie mode.
If I force myself to find anything positive about it, it was refreshing to actually recall a dream once in a while. Or I didn't recall any plot or anything, just some scenes and situations, but it's still more than what I've gotten so far.
3h 40 minutes is a surprisinly long time. Really long time if all you do is wait for next nap, sleep deprived. I guess I'll go for a walk. I've sat around long enough.

A little longer nap, because I didn't wake up for some reason for my normal alarm. However the computer alarm for once did it's job. There was some initial groggyness, but it has gone away. Now I'm experiencing the "oversleep-high" and feeling alert and pretty good... Or then again, maybe not. My state is shifting around really much. I guess I have to wait for next phase before I start feeling really better.
I went out for a 20 minutes and sat there for a moment. I guess I fell asleep. My sis came shouting and apparently I had not reacted to first shout. However that's not really a notable error since it's impossible that I slept more than a couple of minutes, if even that.

Good nap even if I'm still fucked. Since I figured out tha only (fun) thing to do while in sleep-deprived enough is gaming I've been installing bunch of games to my computer. It seems like I'm not getting any improvement to my performance after all, or if it comes it will come at night.

Alright, this comes to strech a bit the term "successful nap". It certainly wasn't a success in terms of keeping inside the schedule, with me probably falling asleep couple of minutes early and getting up almost quarter of a hour too late. That said it isn't failure either. 40 minutes is a long time, but as far as I know it shouldn't mess up everything. So what happened? I shut down the alarm while sleeping. My sis told me to get up and I had reacted by opening my eyes everytime she said something. So finally at 18:25 I regained conchiousness and was very confused of what had happened. She apparently thought I were awake.
I made a deal with her that I'll get off the bed everytime I wake up so that there isn't future mess-ups on this frontier. Nap itself was refreshing - it has been really hard to battle all day, but this seems like a welcome break from it. Whether it is down to nap being longer or just a late reaction to the earlier oversleep, I don't know.
I'm actually really torn whether this is a successful nap or not. I counted 45-minute nap on day six as an oversleep. This is max. 40 mins, can be a bit shorter, I'm not perfectly sure about waking up or falling asleep times. Also I don't know what to think about the fact that I was reacting to her asleep. Meh. I don't know, I'll change it to unsuccesful. Limit is 30 minutes from now on, otherwise it is an oversleep, albeit a small one. It wouldn't matter if I had 20+ successful naps in a row under my belt, but now that I've been messing up constantly this minor thing just has that much of a bigger impact.
So presuming my last nap goes without problems this might seem like another catastrophic day with two oversleeps. I'm obviously not happy, but I think I did decent damage-limitation considering I was tired the whole day. I really need to step it up though. Tomorrow will need to be clean sweep. I think I have good chance of making through weekend without oversleeps. That would be three succesful days in a row.. Well, I can fantasize about it.

Day Six - It Hits Me Like a Train

I tried to take extra care to remember any REM etc. but didn't remember any of it anyway. God damn it, I want REM. Nap had a decent effect in terms of refreshedness. It was the usual quality as well, pretty fast falling asleep, instang wake-up to alarm. Though I might've woken up like seconds before alarm, not sure exactly.
I wonder how long this slight groggyness tiredness is gonna last? The whole adaptation process has been nothing like I expected. Where's the zombie mode? I'll take it that there's not such coming. I guess I'm lucky. I guess I should be trying to create some sort of schedule for myself next. 2 work phases doesn't sound too bad. I'd like to leave some phases permanently free to do whatever I want. I'll get on it now. I wrote one schedule during last attempt, but I really went overboard with it. It's stuffed with shit and I'm not sure anyone (least me) could follow it without burning out.

Same groggy & slightly tired shit. I was actually do tired I returned to bed but I knew I was doomed to oversleep if I'd continue & besides it didn't even really help so I got back up.
Short testing at typera.tk proved that I'm over 100 characters / minute behind my normal typing speeds, meaning that my motor skills haven't yet picked up like they're supposed to. Still, I guess it's early days of my adaptation. I should only get worried after ten days of perfect adherence and it has been barely 4 days since my last & only oversleep. I am feeling functional so no real troubles. 18 naps in a row.. That feels pretty awesome.
Well, I'm having surprising trouble right now. I don't feel right in the head and I'm a bit tired. A bit more than usual.. I'm afraid I might have as hard a day as yesterday. If you count from the oversleep, I'm only at day four now. That basically means that today and tomorrow will still be in the intensive sleep-deprivation range. And we know that I haven't been remembering many REM-phases during my naps.
The funny thing is that since I never adjusted correctly back to monophasic, instead sleeping inversely during day and staying nights awake my body still wants asleep more on the day. I have had my worst moments during the day which is lot of better than during the night, when you're all alone in the dark. It's easier to push through when sun is burning your eyes and there's people around you notifying if you start "nodding".

So yeah, I overslept, but hardly by half an hour, luckily there was people waking me. I hope it won't have too adverse effects on my adaptation. Follow the schedule perfectly. Completely ace it. I don't want to come this far and ruin it all by getting lazy. No more oversleeps. Let's put in another 18 naps in a row.
I'll scratch all my productive plans for today. I am too wrecked to do anything. I need to divert all energy on staying awake and on the program.
I know that 95 % of this blog has been just me babbling randomly and it will intensify in coming days. I am running out of stuff to do. I mean by that, stuff that I can do while I'm tired that doesn't have big risk of me falling asleep. I can't watch tv or poker videos cause like I've said anything passive kills my brain temporarily. I can't do anything creative because everything is struggle and even if I'd manage to do something, it's mostly shit. I can't play poker because it demands far too much brainpower. Commodity that I don't have at the moment. So all there really is is writing this kind of boring to death but therapeutic flow of thoughts to the blog or play games that challenge my survival instinct. There really isn't much else to do.
One thing about the oversleep. I'll tell you exactly what happened: I went to bed already at 9:40, 10 minutes before the official naptime. I figured I'd read magazine for few minutes and that I could keep myself awake for that time. I fell asleep before I intended but I also remember staying awake for few minutes, so it's not that bad. Then I woke up to alarm 10:10. This wouldn't have been any kind of problem if I just haven't gone instantly back to bed after setting off alarms. Now I don't actually remember it so it's possible I hardly woke up. I just know that my alarms were sent off and that my computer's alarm had been set to 4 hours for the next nap. Basically it was 25 minute nap followed more or less without break by another 20 minute nap. It isn't that serious really, but I'm going to treat it as if it were. It probably won't reset my progress, it's going to be a step back but not massive. I still will look to beat the old nap-record again with run that starts now. I'll focus more on this. I have to. I owe it to myself. It really looks like that this time, I can pull it off. I just need to survive through these tough moments, that came in uncharacteristically late this attempt.
It's still over 2 hours to next nap. Looks like I'm going to have to type a lot this time.. Just joking. I'll grab something to eat and keep myself active. I'll be back to write about next nap, which hopefully is completely trouble free. I really need to consentrate on motivating myself to keep going and getting the fuck up immediately, not going back to bed or anything silly like that.
Rest of this phase went well. I played Modern Warfare 2 again and it refreshed me to the point that I actually might've got something productive done.

I feel so disillusioned. My sis told me she didn't know whether or not to wake me since she didn't know whether I was sleeping for real or not. I wrote my napping times up for her. I just wish I can get the ball rolling as fast as I can and can hit to that 2 days asap. Then survive through the worst sleep-deprivation before my sis leaves.
Everything so far has been for nothing. That feels the worst. I guess I should take solace from the fact that I didn't even deserve to go uberman so easily.

I felt really groggy after waking up, but insisted on playing poker pretty much straight away. I played pretty bad, but with good run managed to come out pretty must in one piece - broke even. Thing is though that the bliss is over and this is going to start to get harder. I feel harder to start doing stuff. Put I guess it would be best for me if I'd just push through it. I guess I'll go wash the dishes. That's something properly low-brainpower demanding for me right now.
The nap itself was kind of great. I mean I wasn't refreshed or anything and no REM, but still I'm happy with how quickly I got into the swing of things. I can't really replicate naps like this while being monophasic, I never fall asleep as easily.
I'm expecting REM in next nap, I mean I'm due for a one already. If not the next then the fourth nap of the day.

Well weird oversleep - Did I once again put wrong time to get up? I have little recollection of falling asleep, so hard to say. All the counters are back to zero and that was a normal nap in every other sense. So I just made a mistake or what? Someone should be making sense out of all this for me. I mean I got up instantly when the clock alarmed. So frushtrating.
It's back to square one and it seems that it doesn't matter what time is it whether I oversleep. This kind of seems a honest mistake though. But it frushtrates extremely when both alarms are wrong. It instantly hit me that I had overslept when I woke up, but I didon't remember how the hell it happened.
But there's nothing that I can do about it. I just can't dwell on it, gotta move on. Get the productivity back up etc. But god this takes winds outta my sails. Always.
I played a short poker session and made some some supersmall profit. Didn't feel like playing for long for the obvious reasons.
Oversleeping is the most frushtrating opponent of polyphasic sleep. I'm really not that surprised that I did it, but the manner of doing it just disgusts me. I hate dwelling on it, but I can't really help it. I'm glad there's soon enough another nap and the emotional reset.

Weird nap, but I count it as a success. I just physically couldn't sleep any longer than that, but still had some REM. I don't really recall it, but I feel shorty after waking up that I was somewhere else just before that. Besides, I'm insanely refreshed again. I'm also feeling better emotionally now. I really need to stop being so sloppy with my alarm.
I guess it's sad that I keep oversleeping, but the main thing at the moment (that I have to be happy for) is that I'm fully functional and feeling productive. Of course that won't probably be the case in around 24 hours..
I have two theories about when I have the worst trouble:
1) My body reacts to darkness naturally by increasing melatonin production.
2) My body reacts to my normal sleeping time.
So far results seem to indicate towards option 2, though there isn't any decisive evidence. However, I had no trouble last night and overslept during the day. Though it was more of an alarm mistake I guess..

I felt really groggy after waking up, but insisted on playing poker pretty much straight away. I played pretty bad, but with good run managed to come out pretty must in one piece - broke even. Thing is though that the bliss is over and this is going to start to get harder. I feel harder to start doing stuff. Put I guess it would be best for me if I'd just push through it. I guess I'll go wash the dishes. That's something properly low-brainpower demanding for me right now.
The nap itself was kind of great. I mean I wasn't refreshed or anything and no REM, but still I'm happy with how quickly I got into the swing of things. I can't really replicate naps like this while being monophasic, I never fall asleep as easily.
I'm expecting REM in next nap, I mean I'm due for a one already. If not the next then the fourth nap of the day.

Well weird oversleep - Did I once again put wrong time to get up? I have little recollection of falling asleep, so hard to say. All the counters are back to zero and that was a normal nap in every other sense. So I just made a mistake or what? Someone should be making sense out of all this for me. I mean I got up instantly when the clock alarmed. So frushtrating.
It's back to square one and it seems that it doesn't matter what time is it whether I oversleep. This kind of seems a honest mistake though. But it frushtrates extremely when both alarms are wrong. It instantly hit me that I had overslept when I woke up, but I didon't remember how the hell it happened.
But there's nothing that I can do about it. I just can't dwell on it, gotta move on. Get the productivity back up etc. But god this takes winds outta my sails. Always.
I played a short poker session and made some some supersmall profit. Didn't feel like playing for long for the obvious reasons.
Oversleeping is the most frushtrating opponent of polyphasic sleep. I'm really not that surprised that I did it, but the manner of doing it just disgusts me. I hate dwelling on it, but I can't really help it. I'm glad there's soon enough another nap and the emotional reset.

Weird nap, but I count it as a success. I just physically couldn't sleep any longer than that, but still had some REM. I don't really recall it, but I feel shorty after waking up that I was somewhere else just before that. Besides, I'm insanely refreshed again. I'm also feeling better emotionally now. Enough is Enough
I let it go and slept the whole night. In the end I wasn't ever even that close to adaptation and it was pretty clear that I wasn't going to succeed. It was the days 4-6 that decided the attempt and after that I juyst didn't have enough in me to push through. This won't be my final attempt, but I will retun to monophasic for sometime now. Let's see again on the fall, probably.

Again this same oversleep. I don't even remember getting up at night. Makes me think it's even more certain that I changed the times by myself while sleeping. Or could've I made the same mistake twice? Wait a minute - my main alarm was set to 2' o'clock but my two others to 6 o'clock. I woke up to the second alarm. I might've just slept through my alarm.
This really sucks. But then again, it was the Wednesday. I could give it one final chance when I'm not physically exhausted, but I don't know. It just feels like that my chances are gone already and I can't seem to handle any sleepyness anymore. Therefore, one final push - If I oversleep again, that's it. The history doesn't give me much of a chance of succeeding, but whatever.

Day Nine - Taking It Serious Again
Gonna change the format a bit and put REM on lines of info, makes it quicker to check when I had REM and when not.
Day 9.1

I really don't know what happened. I wake up snap once my alarm went off, but why were all my alarms set to wake me up 4 hours late? Did I really do that big of an error or did I reset them after waking up at 2 am. but not really waking up? But yeah, bad crash. My confidence of succeeding is starting to fade slowly but surely. This morning is just annihilating me all the time. Oversleeping through one whole phase is about as bad as it gets.
I just don't get why all of my alarms were set to wrong time. But what can you do? I guess the soccer had it's say since I didn't even wake up on my own. All I can do I just keep trying. We're still not that deep into the effort that it's ruined, but I think I have to practically adjust again. I really need to do that 24 naps in a row if I'm to succeed. There has been trouble during night for three nights in a row. I didn't space my alarms out across the room as clearly as I've done earlier. I guess I have to start doing that again. My last REM nap was 8.2, since that nothing. Here's the whole rem-dream list: 8.2, 7.3, 6.2, 4.4 4.3
It seems to indicate that I wasn't as close to adjusting as it seemed. Most of the REM came about the same time instead of scattered around.
I have to ask my dad what happened, he was awake when I went to bed last night. Did I really wake up, reset my alarms and just fall asleep again? It really seems like it. Anyway, I can't make more mistakes. Wednesday will be the next critical spot as I'm playing football once again. I'm 3 for 3 in terms of oversleeping after playing football, so it's imperative to go from this to then without mistakes. I know that my initial adjustment is in ruins and I probably have to go through another couple of day of narcolepsy. Anyway, If I don't soon adjust I gotta start considering quitting since I can't drag this on too long. What a dissapointment that would be after coming so close. I'm kinda depressed, but I can't really dwell on my failure, just gotta move forward. I've been really saying about the importance of these nights, yet I haven't taken action to really make sure I stay awake through them. Daytime will be no problem as I've said so many times earlier, I should concentrate all my willpower and effort to the two night-naps.

I guess it could've been more refreshing nap, but it returned the status quo. I was tired after it and laid down for a while chatting with my brother (I don't think I have danger of falling asleep while socializing). After that I went out and trained football lightly for 40 minutes. That was enough to shrug the tiredness away. Football has been very effective in that for me so far.
I asked my dad about what happened around 2 am. and didn't get a proper answer.. pretty much just laughed at and he said that at least I finally got some sleep. Idiot. I tried to explain it to him that it actually wasn't a good thing and that 4 hours isn't gonna cover the sleep-deprivation I'm going under, but what's the use..
